Zowel jacquets worden er niet meer gedragen of gemaakt. Je moet dus wel jouw jacquet laten maken door een van de weinige specialisten. We maken het graag en stiekem toch best wel regelmatig. Het jacquet is het formeelste kledingstuk voor overdag dat we tegenwoordig kennen en wordt bij officiële gelegenheden gedragen.  Denk aan een huwelijksvoltrekking, de opening van de Staten Generaal, bij aflegging van geloften bij de koning maar ook aan een bezoek aan de paardenraces van Ascott.

Since the middle of the last century, jacquet has referred to a black or gray men's coat. People used to wear pawn coats. These have gradually been simplified into today's jacquet. Characteristic features are the rounded front panels that flare long towards the back. Still there are two buy on the back to used to attach the panniers while riding. The front is closed with one button and has cropped lapels. A linking button is also an option. In the past and today among older gentlemen on formal occasions, a satin rever is the correct version; however, it is often omitted. Traditionally, a gray vest goes with black and gray striped pants. The grayer the pants the more Catholic the wearer and thus the darker the fabric the heavier the wearer is in leather.

Yet infinite options

In winter the fabric may be slightly woolly, in summer smooth woolen fabrics are preferred. Often one wears a white shirt with a horizontal collar, a smooth (or concealed) button placket , double cuffs. A gray tie and possibly gray gloves and a high cylinder (hat) finish it off. The hat is silk or felt and gray at weddings and black on other occasions and is usually worn in the hand. In sad circumstances, plain black pants, tie and vest may also be worn. The shoes are always black under the jacquet

De Engelsen spreken van morning coat en dragen overdag ook vesten in een gele, camelachtige kleur die men buff noemt. Vooral voor zomer huwelijken kan een zandkleurige, en vaak dubbele rij, vest mooi zijn. Voor middagfeesten is een piqué wit vest ook mogelijk. Op Ascott zie je ook wel grijze varianten van het jacquet. Bijvoorbeeld Prince Charles trouwde twee keer in een grijs jacquet. Ook de vader van de bruid kan een grijs jacquet dragen.  Bij NEW TAILOR maakten we ook al geheel blauwe jacquets. Een jacquet wordt nooit na zonsondergang gedragen. Dan kies je meestal voor ‘Black Tie’. Omdat het jacquet zo’n traditioneel kledingstuk is maken we het met ons Engelse Atelier.

The English speak of morning coat and also wear vests during the day in a yellow, camel color called buff. Especially for summer weddings, a sand-colored, and often double-row, vest can be nice. For afternoon parties, a pique white vest is also possible. At Ascott, you also see gray versions of the jacquet. For example, Prince Charles married twice in a gray jacquet. The father of the bride can also wear a gray jacquet. At NEW TAILOR we also made all-blue jacquets. A jacquet is never worn after sunset. Then you usually choose "Black Tie.

Ideally, of course, it should be clothes that you can also enjoy wearing afterwards.
